According to various estimates, the coastline in Gagra is more than 50 km of beaches. AND good beaches, I must say, if the pebbles don’t bother you. There are no sandy beaches in Gagra as such, just as there are no wild beaches, and private beaches. There are only public and boarding houses. For now, this difference is not so dramatic, because many boarding houses easily and free of charge allow those who do not stay there to visit their beaches. In general, the entire beach area, like the town itself, is divided into those belonging to Old and New Gagra.

Old Gagra, which is closer to the border, is the historical part of the settlement, and the beach here is less developed, but quieter. Behind it are Soviet boarding houses and recreation centers, and a little further away the city's attractions begin - in particular, beautiful parks. We can say that the beaches of Old Gagra are more beautiful and calmer. But there is no entertainment or attractions here, and it can be difficult to get sunbeds and umbrellas.

In general, the entire beach area, like the town itself, is divided into those belonging to Old and New Gagra.

New Gagra, as the name suggests, is younger and livelier. It extends to the south, towards Pitsunda. The beaches of New Gagra are smaller and more numerous. Here beach life is much more active and cheerful, there are many cafes, shops and even a supermarket - all right next to the sea. There are also catamarans, pedal boats, boats and boats, “bananas”. Plus, there is also a small water park here.

The beaches of Gagra are mostly small-pebble. Or sandy, but there will still be pebbles at the entrance to the sea. The water in the sea is clean, and in sunny weather it takes on a bright turquoise color. This always surprises tourists: it seems that we drove only 20 km from Sochi’s Imeretinka, but the color of the water in the sea is fundamentally different!

But with changing rooms, showers, sunbeds and umbrellas it's much worse here. Basically, tourists bring rugs and umbrellas with them. But if you look, you can find sun loungers with umbrellas for 100-150 rubles, which is an order of magnitude cheaper than in Sochi. Near the colonnade, a luxury tent will cost 100 rubles per hour.

A small disadvantage may be that the beach cannot be called perfectly clean (although for Abkhazia this is a problem not only for beaches). But in general, if there is no desire to waste time on further movements, then in Gagra you can count on quite acceptable beach holiday .

Pitsunda

If you drive along the road from Gagra towards New Athos for another 30-40 minutes, you can get to Pitsunda .

This is one of my favorite places in Abkhazia.

The resort is located even further along the coast (about 35 km from Pitsunda), and you can only approach it from the main highway. Turning off the Sukhumi highway at 46 km, where there is a sign “Mysra / Myussera”, you will drive 10 km through the Pitsunda-Myussera Nature Reserve before you find yourself on the seashore.

The road will lead to a gate behind which there is a guarded area. This is where they are state dachas of Stalin and Gorbachev , as well as a boarding house named after Lakoba. Getting to Mussera place on public transport will not work. The main methods are as follows:
