All transport, such as plane, train or bus, comes to Riga or its surroundings, from where you will have to get to the golden beaches on your own. How to get from Riga to Jurmala

First to the railway station

To travel to the central station, we need to find a stop and wait for the transport that suits us.

There are several options:

• You can download a special program Transport in Riga to your phone, which will calculate optimal route(with or without transfers) and will tell you the direction of the nearest stop. However, this application can only be used by owners of Android smartphones.

• You can ask any passerby or at any retail outlet, where they will most likely tell you in pure Russian where to go. In a good sense of the word.

The street in Latvian is translated as iela. Our stop is Central Station Stop - Centrālā stacija (sounds like “Central Station”).

How to get to Jurmala from the Central Station

The central station is located on the square and is clearly visible. How to get from Riga railway station to Jurmala? Again there are several options:

• Taxi cars are located near Central Station. You can get to Jurmala on it, but it will cost you about 3,000 rubles. An unreasonable price for the route, considering that there will be nothing to look out of the window.

• Opposite the railway station there is a bus stop and shuttle buses, which go every 10 minutes in the direction of Jurmala, the ride takes about 30-35 minutes. 1.24 € - in the hands of the driver. Cons: you most likely won’t see anything except the forest, plus you might get stuck in a traffic jam.

• The best choice for traveling to Jurmala from Riga is by train. In order to buy a ticket, you need to go straight to the station building and go straight to the ticket office. The ticket price varies around 1.50€.

You will not see the Riga-Jurmala train in the route schedule, so confusion may arise. The railway line passes through Jurmala, you need to look at the directions to Sloka, Tukums or Dubulti, at the ticket office you can simply say that you need to go to Jurmala.

Advantageous options for train tickets

Buying a round trip ticket straight away will be ten cents cheaper. If you plan to travel, for example, a week in one direction, it is more profitable to take a ticket intended for this. A ticket is purchased to a specific station. I advise you to go to Dzintari or - this is the very center. From Riga to Jurmala it is approximately 39 kilometers.

We're going by train to Jurmala

Finding the right platform is not difficult. Usually, from one platform, trains go in one direction. Everything around is clean and beautiful, equipped with benches. You can sit, but sit and smoke - no. You can't smoke at all in Riga. Maybe somewhere it’s possible, but at the station it’s definitely not possible. The carriage arrives one minute according to schedule.

In general, as I understand it, being punctual in Riga is beneficial. On the train, again, there is an on-site ticketing system, at the controller who checks tickets. The price is 30% higher than the box office ticket. You can bribe the controller if you decide to go further than indicated on the ticket. Just kidding, it's legal :)

You need to sit on the “right” side of the train

This is where the fun comes in! I sat on the left side of the carriage, facing the direction of travel. Most diverse foreign-speaking individuals tourist type sat down on the right and took out gadgets. Maybe a tourist group? No! When the train started moving and we began to cross the river (the same Dvina, which I have already talked about several times), on the right there opened up a beautiful view of the famous “postcard Riga” with the towers of the cathedrals of the old city, with a view of the Dome Cathedral and the Church of the Saint and the magnificent bridges thrown across the river by the hand of Riga architects. And how beautifully the city twinkles at night with a string of lights! Everyone started filming, and I couldn’t resist either.

How to get to Jurmala from Zadvinye

Having crossed the bridge, we found ourselves in the western region of Riga. The railway line passing through Jurmala has many stops - stations where the train stops. There are also several stops in the western district of Riga - Zadvinje, so those living there do not need to go to the station in the center, but can get on at the nearest station.

Visit Jurmala in the most rewarding way

From the Imanta station, along the strip of forest next to the tracks, the ribbon of a bicycle path began to flash. You can also get to Jurmala by bicycle. You should pick up a bicycle, for example, at a special station near the path. You throw a coin into the machine - the vehicle will “unhook” from it and you can pick it up. The return of transport is carried out to any similar station near your location.

Desperate cyclists, sometimes even in groups in full sports gear, follow the train to the intersection with the Lielupe River, board the train, cross the river and move on. This is some useful entertainment.

By the way, the carriage has compact racks for bicycles located near the entrance. Cyclists drag their two-wheeled vehicle into the carriage, in which the controller necessarily helps them, and vertically place their vehicle in them.

We enter Jurmala from the Priedaine stop - this is the very first station, but it is far enough from the coast of Jurmala and there is no point in getting off there. Sandy beaches begin after we cross the Lielupe River and get to the village of the same name. When we cross the river, we see many parked boats and yachts - Lielupe is rich in yacht clubs.

Dzintari and are the most active tourist spots in Jurmala. Here is one of the popular ones walking routes both tourists and Latvians: we get off at Dzintari station, go down to the beach and walk along the sand to . From there you can return back to Dzintari along Jomas Street - the calling card of Jurmala. On this street there are many shops with souvenirs, restaurants and cafes where you can refresh yourself before returning home.

By train

Before traveling by train, it is worth telling all people who are traveling to Riga for the first time that Jurmala is the name of the entire resort along the Baltic Sea, but each individual area of ​​the resort has its own name. Depending on which area of ​​Jurmala you need to get to, you will need to get off at that station.

Jurmala includes the following districts: Priedaine, Lielupe, Bulduri, Dzintari, Majori, Dubulti, Valteri, Jaundubulti, Pumpuri, Melluzi, Asari, Vaivari, Sloka, Kauguri, Jaunkemeri and Kemeri.

If you are planning to visit the center of Jurmala, then you should get to Majori. In general, if you follow the following instructions, you will get to the sea without any problems.

1. The train from Riga to Jurmala is the most convenient way to independently get from the center of the Latvian capital to the resort. The train departs from the Central Railway Station in Riga (Rīga Pasažieru).

2. Before your trip, check the train schedule on the official Pv.lv website to plan your round trip. The distance between Riga and Jurmala is 25 km. Electric trains run at intervals of 15-30 minutes. Travel time is about 25-30 minutes.

3. Arrive at the station in advance and find the ticket office, at one of which you buy a ticket. At the box office the language most often spoken is Russian. You can purchase a return ticket. The one-way fare is 1.4 euros. The ticket can also be purchased on the train from the conductor. If there is a ticket office at the boarding station, then 0.50 euros is added to the ticket price, and if the ticket office at the boarding station is not working, then the conductor sells the ticket at the regular price.

4. After purchasing a ticket, go to the schedule and find the train you need to find out the route from which it departs. It is worth focusing on the direction of Sloka, which you can see in the photo below.

5. Then follow the signs to the tracks and take any free seat on the train. The seats on the train are comfortable and installed in a 3 + 3 arrangement. The train also has a toilet and working free WiFi.

6. While driving, the controller will check your ticket.

7. According to the schedule, the train should arrive at the station you need at the appointed time. I usually don’t trust announcements on the train and like to track traffic using the MAPS.ME offline map, where I set the necessary points on my route in advance.

By bus

Intercity bus is a less comfortable option for traveling from Riga to Jurmala. Buses in this direction depart every day approximately once every 20-90 minutes. The fare is 1.5 euros. The disadvantage of this method of travel is the small number of stops the bus makes. Therefore, if you need to get to a certain point in the resort, it is better to choose train travel.

The current bus schedule can be viewed at the ticket office, where you can also purchase tickets. We were lucky, and at the ticket office the bus station workers in all cases understood Russian.

On a boat

From May to September it is possible to travel from Riga to Jurmala on the New Wave pleasure boat. The fare is 20 euros one way or 30 euros round trip. Travel time is 2.5 hours. The ship departs daily from the pier, which is located on the embankment of the Daugava River near the Riga Castle.

By bike

Riga and Latvia are a paradise for cyclists, because... The elevation changes in these places are small, and you won’t have to strain your legs much. From Riga to Jurmala there is a decent bike path along the forest, and in a couple of hours you can reach the resort, while taking a deep breath of fresh air. Bicycles can be rented from numerous rental shops scattered around the city.

Excursion from Riga to Jurmala

I know that some tourists come to Latvia for a short time and like to go on excursions so as not to have to worry about public transport. Such tourists will benefit from a fascinating excursion, during which they can feel the spirit of the city, learn about the history of the resort and what diseases are treated here.

If you decide to go to Jurmala on vacation and you have a lot of luggage, then it is more convenient in advance so as not to have to stress about running around with suitcases at the train stations and then going to the hotel doors. A taxi is definitely the most comfortable travel option, although not if the drivers deceive passengers.
