We must admit that we did not expect that we would be able to put the Panasonic Lumix FZ82 in a practical test. After all, a sister model, the Lumix FZ300, is already quite firmly established in the segment of "popular" bridge cameras. And yet, the Panasonic Lumix FZ82 is apparently intended for a slightly different audience.

The one who would like to take a lot of photographs also of the most distant objects. With 60x zoom and focal lengths ranging from 20 to a dizzying 1200mm in small format, the chances of filling 18MP photos with even ants are good to say the least.

And video: in line with fashion trends, the Panasonic Lumix FZ82 shoots in high definition Ultra-HD at smooth 30 frames per second at a data rate of 100 Mbps. On board is also an exquisite 4K mode of photography from the manufacturer's DSLM family. Audio recording is carried out using an integrated stereo microphone. There is also a practical solution especially for shooting moving objects: focus shifting is conveniently carried out on a rotatable and clear 3-inch display.

Of course, the display is also used for photography. However, at the latest in bright sunlight, photographers will opt for an electronic viewfinder. Although it looks small with a 0.2-inch diagonal, the image clarity is superb.

Another thing we liked about the Panasonic Lumix FZ82 during our hands-on testing was its speed. On the one hand, fast continuous shooting at 10 frames per second. On the other hand, 49 points of contrast measurement allow the autofocus to do its job in a matter of milliseconds.

This is extremely impressive when working in the upper focal range. The Image Stabilizer also proved to be very convincing, delivering a pleasantly "calm" picture even at a full 1200mm.

The Achilles' heel of the Panasonic Lumix FZ82 that we found in our hands-on test was image quality. Due to the pre-production status of the device, we did not download the images to the computer for detailed evaluation, but the first impression of the display on the display can be made. Thus, shots taken in daylight look pretty decent, that is, with little noise, crisp and detailed.

However, interior shots taken at high ISOs from 800 to 1600 look noticeably softer and are significantly poorer in detail. Also, the burst length of just ten JPEGs or five in RAW seems pretty short to us.

Both of these remarks should be kept in mind by interested parties when they go to the direction of photo equipment sellers in February to purchase a Panasonic Lumix FZ82 for about 400 euros (25,700 rubles). This cost is slightly lower than the Panasonic Lumix FZ300.
