Beach surin beach phuket reviews. Surin Beach Phuket - description of the beach with photos, tips on hotels and restaurants on Surin Beach. Prices in makashnitsa along Surin Beach

I’ll tell you about one of my favorite beaches in Phuket – Surin beach. I don’t know why my love for this beach is connected, because it doesn’t have the infrastructure I need, but for some reason the Surin scourge sunk into my soul :) Perhaps because it was the first beach we visited when we arrived in Phuket after wintering in, and perhaps because it is quite sparsely populated, especially compared to the southern beaches of the island... This article contains a description, infrastructure, hotels, reviews and photos of Surin beach.

Surin Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Phuket!

Description of the beach

Surin Beach Phuket A small beach by Phuket standards in the north-west of the island. Exact location of the beach. It is located between two other popular beaches: Bang Tao Beach on the north side and on the south side. Between Surin Beach and Kamala Beach there is a small bay in which it is hidden (at the moment you can only get to it by sea), and between Surin and Bang Tao the Pansea Surin Beach, on which the only hotel is located (you can only get to this beach through hotel or along the stones from the northern part of Surin Beach). On both sides of the bay there are picturesque mountains, stones and rocks.

The northern part of Surin beach, there is another beach behind the cape, which belongs to an expensive hotel

A few years ago, Surin Phuket beach was one of the comfortable places for beach and evening relaxation, there was a popular beach club called Catch beach club, and vacationers from neighboring beaches came for dinner to nice restaurants on the seashore.

Surin had all the beach infrastructure: sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, toilets. But one day the island’s government decided to remove the tourist infrastructure from Surin Beach and create a park next to the beach dedicated to the King of Thailand. But something went wrong... the infrastructure was demolished, but the park was never organized :) Now the surroundings of the beach do not look very presentable, although many say that now the beach looks natural and natural :)

Once upon a time there were good restaurants and beach clubs in Surin, now there is none of this...

Beach, shade, sea, waves

The beach strip of Surin Beach is not very long by Phuket standards, only about 800 meters (this is not the neighboring multi-kilometer Bang Tao beach :) The beach is wide, lush vegetation grows along the sea: casuarinas, some deciduous trees, and in the southern part of the beach there is a picturesque palm grove. Due to the fact that Surin Beach is wide and faces west, there is natural shade from trees only in the first half of the day, and even then there is not much of it; most of the beach strip is under the sun.

The trees grow far from the water's edge, the beach faces west, so there is natural shade here only until lunchtime; shady areas should be occupied early in the morning :)

The sand is a beautiful beige color and quite fine. The water in the sea is clear, on a sunny day a very beautiful turquoise color (almost like). Entry into the sea is very comfortable: there are no stones, shells, algae or other natural debris on the surf line. The depth increases gradually, but rather spasmodically: shallow, deep, shallow again :)

The color of the water in the sea is like on the neighboring islands :)
Transparent and gentle sea

In the low season from May to October there are strong waves on Surin Beach, but in winter the sea may or may not be rough :) In January-February last year we observed complete calm on Surin Beach, but this season at the same time time on the beach there are small pleasant waves.

Surin Beach infrastructure

At the moment, there are no sun loungers or umbrellas on the sand on Surin Beach, unlike many other beaches in Phuket! From time to time, mattresses and areas for rent appear on the beach (200 - 300 baht per couple), beach chairs and inflatable mattresses are also rented. Merchants walk along the beach offering to buy an inflatable “sofa” lamzak.

You can buy an inflatable “sofa” Lamzac

There are sun loungers on a hill in the southern part of Surin Beach (if you look at the sea, on the left). The cost of a sunbed is 150 baht (on most other beaches in Phuket 100 baht).

In this same part of the beach there are only two stationary cafes overlooking the sea. And every morning, on the path along the sea, numerous bowls with food and drinks are laid out.

  • Coconut – 50 baht – 60 baht
  • Fruit shakes – 50 baht – 80 baht
  • Pancakes – 50 baht – 60 baht
  • Dishes with rice and chicken/pork – 150 baht
  • Pad Thai – 80 baht – 120 baht
  • Beer from 60 baht
  • Glass of wine – 100 baht

On the beach in two places I saw improvised showers with fresh water. One shower in the southern part of the beach near a hill with sun loungers. “Shower” is not its exact name: in this case it’s just a barrel of fresh water, you need to shower yourself from a ladle. Another shower on the path near the makashnitsy in the northern part of the beach. Cost 20 baht. There is a toilet for 10 baht in the cafe.

You can get a massage near the beach, the prices are higher than, for example, on the neighboring Kamala beach or in a normal salon in Central Festival:

  • Thai massage – 400 baht
  • Foot massage – 400 baht
  • Facial massage – 500 baht
  • Coconut oil massage – 500 baht

Fun on Surin Beach

Fortunately, there are no water activities on Surin Beach :) You can’t ride a jet ski or parasail here, you can swim completely safely, knowing that no one will run over or fall on your head :)

There is also no normal snorkeling on Surin beach, although people swim near the rocks with masks - what they are watching there is a mystery to me... For good snorkeling, you need to go to other islands of Thailand, for example, or at least to.

There are no water activities on Sirin, but there is a horse that you can ride :)

Cleanliness and crowd at Surin Beach

If we talk about the cleanliness of the beach, then in the high season (winter) the beach is quite clean and well-groomed. But in the summer, the beach is not cleared of debris that is washed ashore by the waves 🙁 In the off-season (September - October), Surin Beach also cannot boast of cleanliness.

There are more and more people on the beach every year. If previously it was mainly Europeans who vacationed in Surin, this season there are a lot of Russian-speaking families with children. In general, it’s kind of a full house in Phuket now, this wasn’t the case last year!

In recent days, numerous buses have been spotted in Surin bringing tourists to the beach!

Relaxing on Surin Beach is also loved by the Thais, who come here on weekends or on weekdays in the late afternoon, lay out their rugs and eat and eat :)

There are few people on Surin beach in October, but the beach is not very clean at this time...
That's how many people are at sea in Surin in January!

Infrastructure of the Surin Phuket region

Along the beach strip of Surin Beach there is a small, not very well-groomed path, on one side of which there are shops, and on the other, bikes are parked. You can park your car either in the center at the entrance to this path or on the right in the large field.

The path along the sea in Surin is filled with mucks and bikes
Path along the sea

The main road runs 200 meters from the beach. There are 24-hour 7 Helen and Family stores, cafes, massage parlors, and hotels. There is a Tesco Express store 600 meters from the sea, along the road they sell fruit and other small items. The nearest Super Chip store is 2 km from the beach.

A large Tesco supermarket is located about 3 km from Surin Beach in Bang Tao, where there is also an evening market. Villa Market is approximately 5 km away.

Surin Beach Hotels

Speaking about hotels on Surin Beach, it should be noted that on the very seashore (on the first line) there are no hotels. Basically, all the hotels are located on the road, which runs 200 meters from the beach and you have to go to the beach along not very well-maintained paths.

Excellent hotel for families with children 200 m from the beach

BUT: in the southern part of the beach on a hill there is a hotel with a gorgeous panoramic pool and rooms with sea views. There are stairs leading to the beach. We can say that this is a hotel on Surin beach on the first line :)

And behind the cape in the north there is a luxury hotel with its own beach in Pansy Bay.

Surin Beach reviews

Usually, when I write my reviews about beaches, I consider both the beach strip and the area nearby (for example, my favorite one - I like both the beach itself and the area with all the infrastructure next to it :)). In the case of Surin Beach, I want to separate my review and highlight Surin Beach itself and the surrounding area.

We really like Surin Beach for its relative uncrowding, clean sand, beautiful color of the sea, and pleasant water.

But the Surin beach area didn’t really impress me... it feels kind of neglected and unkempt :)

Surin Beach is suitable for a quiet, relaxing holiday, a family holiday and for families with children. Party-goers will be bored here, although there are several beach clubs very close, for example Catch beach club in Bang Tao and Café Del Mar in Kamala.

Long beach strip, excellent entry into the sea
Unfortunately, there are quite a lot of annoying merchants on the beach
Good entry into the water without stones and debris, in the low season there are waves on the beach
There are large stones in the water in the center of the beach; you need to swim to the right or left of them
In the off-season the beach is almost empty
The sea here is quite deep, so the ebb and flow of the tides are not particularly noticeable, i.e. You can swim comfortably even during low tides

From the airport to Surin Beach you can get by:

  • Taxi by meter
  • Pre-paid taxi for 700 baht
  • By taxi with Russian-speaking drivers. You can order through the Tune application: just install the application on your phone, enter the code 1TRZAT, choose where and from where to go, you can order a taxi in advance for a specific date and time
  • On a pre-booked transfer. Book a transfer from the airport >>
  • By bus with a transfer: take the yellow bus that goes from the airport to Phuket Town to the circle with the monument to the heroines, and then catch a bus that goes from Phuket Town to Kamala via Surin. The journey is long, it’s better to take a taxi!
  • By rented car.

From other Phuket beaches you can get to Surin Beach by:

  • bike
  • car
  • Taxi
  • walk from the southern part of Bang Tao beach
  • by direct bus from Bang Tao or Kamala
  • by bus from other beaches with transfers in Phuket Town (very long!)

Taxi rates from Surin Beach

By the way, in Thailand they like to give the same names to completely different geographical objects. For example, in addition to the Surin beach, there is also a province of the same name, as well as islands. Therefore, when preparing your trip, do not get confused. :) Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to get to the islands on this trip, but we explored the beach far and wide.

How to get there, where it is

Surin Beach or Surin Beach is located in the west of the island, in a bay between the beaches in the south and Bang Tao in the north, about 16 kilometers south of Phuket Airport.

By car

We got to the beach in a rental car from the beach where our hotel was located. The cost of renting for a day cost us 37 USD (1,300 Thai baht (THB)). If you are also going to drive to the beach from your hotel in a rented car, it is reasonable to look at offers from car rental companies around the island, this can be done, for example,.

Unfortunately, there is no fruit market here either. Previously, before the military coup and the demolition of establishments, Surin was famous for its restaurants, variety of cuisine and world dishes. We managed to catch it and sit in one of the then famous bars. But even now in Surin you can easily find where to eat. Read about it below.

If you need shops, then walk along the neighboring streets of the village, here in the shops you can buy something you need from the locals. If you need more serious shopping, then you need to go further to the north of “Surin” towards Bang Tao, to the shopping centers: Pimol Minimart, Plaza, Ginger, where you will find a wide selection of industrial goods, shoes, haberdashery and clothing. Lemongrass has a huge variety of cosmetics and oils.

And if you need to buy groceries, you should go to the nearby Bang Tao to the Tesco Lotus hypermarket. Prices at Tesco are reasonable and locals also shop here. For example, a 6-liter bottle of drinking water costs 1.13 USD (40 THB), 0.5 liter Coca-Cola costs 0.48 USD (17 THB).

By the way, some manage to walk to neighboring beaches: in the south and Bang Tao in the north; the journey takes at least half an hour, but in such heat and in the absence of pedestrian paths (you will have to walk straight along a busy, narrow and winding highway along which both cars and motorbikes rush by), not everyone can do it.

What to see

Not far from the coastline we saw a very beautiful temple called Wat Surin.

There is a playground for children near the beach. There is also a lake nearby. And for sports lovers, to the left of the temple there is a sports ground with a football field, as well as a mini-golf course.

They promise that in a few years they will make a beautiful park near the beach.

Parking

We were in a rented car, so the most pressing issue for us was the availability of parking. All available space was occupied by bikes and cars. Unfortunately, we had to park in the area, which is intended for football. It's good that we didn't stay there long. And some left their cars there for the whole day.

By the way, don’t be surprised if you meet a lot of Muslims in this area; the locals settle in this area as
once they.

How to choose housing

In total, there are about two dozen hotels on Surin Beach.

There are no hotels located directly on the beach; all of them are located on the second coastline, 200 meters from the water.

Moreover, the closest ones to the sea and the beach are in its southern part. They are also the most expensive. But in these hotels, guests have stunning views of the azure sea and gorgeous sunsets.

Prices for 70% of hotels in Surin are about 100 USD/night. There are also up to 500 USD/night, since the beach was originally designed for wealthy people.

If you need a budget option, then you will have to consider a few hotels located in the interior of the island, further from the beach: Ayara Hilltops 4* and Benyada Lodge 3*.

In general, it is better to look for guesthouses in the neighboring Bang Tao. By the way, you can try to find a convenient option for yourself. It is better to book rooms in budget hotels in Surin much in advance, as they are quickly sold out by thrifty travelers who love this comfortable beach. It’s convenient to do this on, and you can compare prices for the same hotel from different sites, for example.

Surin is often called the beach for the rich, as it is believed that this place is preferred by many famous and wealthy people. But we are still not talking about the beach itself, but its private part in the north - Pansea Beach. It is here in the closed Pansy Bay that two luxury hotels are located:

  • The Surin Phuket (prices here start from 400 USD/day);
  • Amanpuri (and here it starts from 1,000 USD/day for a regular room to 10,000 USD/day for a suite).

As I said above, this bay is separated by a cape from Surin, and the hotel area is guarded.

As on other beaches, in the high season (November-March) housing prices on Surin will increase, and in the low season significant discounts of half the cost or more are possible.

  • 5* hotels in Surin - Twinpalms Phuket Hotel, The Chava Resort, The Surin Phuket Hotel.
  • 4* hotels - Novotel Phuket Surin Beach Resort, Ayara Hilltops Boutique Resort & Spa, The Quarter Phuket Resort.
  • Budget accommodation - Benyada Lodge, Surintra Resort, Bangtao Guest House.

Where to eat

Unfortunately, after cleaning the coastline, on the beach itself, famous for its infrastructure, bars and restaurants, there is now nothing left except the “On the Rocks” restaurant. Cafes and restaurants are now located on the second line from the sea, or on hotel premises.

The largest concentration of places to eat is concentrated on the southern part of the second line - on Surin Beach Road. There are both expensive cafes and cheap ones with plastic tables, where they cook food right on the street in front of you. Mostly Muslim women work.

In the cafe you can eat salads, Thai dishes, fish, seafood, chicken dishes, fried corn. Food from makashnits (carts with prepared dishes that can move from place to place) is also available here, you can buy corn, ready-made rice with chicken, fruits, pancakes and other Thai delicacies.

Prices

Prices on this beach are higher than on the popular beaches of Kata, Karon and Patong. For example, a dish with seafood can be ordered for 10 USD (350 THB) and more. Mango or watermelon smoothie - for 1.4 USD (50 THB).

In general, the further we drove north along the beaches, the higher the prices became. So, for my favorite refreshing watermelon smoothie in Patong you can pay 0.84 USD (30 THB), while on the northern beaches it costs 2.23 USD (80 THB).

In cheap cafes on Surin Beach, food prices start at 2.5 USD (80 THB). The cafe is more expensive and higher class - from 8.5 USD (300 THB).

Finally

We really liked the Surin Beach area in Phuket. Despite the fact that there were many people during the season, the beach still seems calmer and cleaner than the southern ones, especially. Surin itself is located away from the highway, so it is absolutely quiet here. By the way, there are more foreigners on this coast than Russians.

For the sake of peace, clean water and soft sand, you should definitely visit here. I also advise you to find on the way here the small beach “Laem Singh”, hidden in the cape between and “Surin”, where there is absolutely no infrastructure, but you can find privacy and enjoy an excellent view and nature.

Its length is about 800 meters, width - up to 55 meters. The shore is covered with fine light sand. The water here is clear and turquoise in color.

Surin Beach is popular among Russian tourists and is distinguished by its versatility: those who are accustomed to a calm and measured pastime at the resort, party lovers (clubs and bars are open from November to May), surfers and couples in love relax here. There are also quite a lot of locals on the beach.

However, while sunbathing and swimming in the sea, one should not forget that the sun in Southeast Asia in general and in Thailand in particular is very active, so it is quite easy to get sunburned or get sunstroke here. You can protect yourself by hiding in the shade, wearing hats and using sunscreen with a high UV protection index.

Lifeguards are always on duty on the beach. During the monsoon season, which lasts in Phuket from May to October, high waves occur on the beach. At this time, surfers from all over the world flock to Surin Beach. Skiing equipment can be rented (the rental price is constantly changing, so it makes sense to find out about it on the spot). If you don’t know how to skate, local instructors will help you master the board.

From October to April, when the sea in these places is calmest, snorkeling is one of the main entertainments in Surin: snorkelers admiring the underwater world prefer to dive in the waters off the northern part of the beach. The necessary equipment can be rented from local instructors or purchased at nearby shops. Many amazing fish swim near the shore, and in the evenings you can even meet reef sharks, which, despite their threatening appearance, are completely safe for humans.

You can also go diving. It is recommended to do this near the reefs, as there are quite a lot of marine life of the most bizarre shapes there. You can see moray eels, barracuda, starfish, numerous crustaceans including lobsters and so on.

Every year, the infrastructure of Surin is developing: cafes and restaurants serving local and European cuisine are opening next to the sandy beach, and new hotels are being built. It's fun here at any time of year or day. Of course, Surin is one of the most popular beaches in Phuket (both among tourists and local residents).

During the high season, you can stay on the shore with your own equipment and completely free of charge (free admission), or rent a sun lounger under a beach umbrella, the cost per day is standard - 100 baht (subject to change, check on the spot). In terms of our money, this is about 200 rubles. Quite inexpensive, especially compared to European beaches.

Hotels near Surin Beach

A few meters from the beach there are four- and five-star hotels, villas, and apartments. Surin Beach hotels on the first line are especially popular among family vacationers. The price depends on the level of the hotel. In general, in Surin there are luxury hotels with the highest level of service (and cost) and inexpensive economy class hotels.

All accommodation options are available on the map below:

Reviews of Surin Beach in Phuket

Tourists who have visited Surin Beach, first of all, note the sometimes strong waves (but this is also an advantage, especially for those who are fans of surfing), and secondly, the abundance of greenery along the coast.

Surin Beach is one of the most picturesque in Phuket and is a great place for beach photo shoots. The roadway is separated from the shore by deciduous and coniferous trees; you can sit on the sand and at the same time hide in the shade.

Vacationers also write about the cleanliness of the water and the well-groomed area of the beach itself. When there are no waves, you can also relax here with children. The entrance to the sea is gentle, the depth increases gradually, there are no sharp changes.

Some write about incredibly beautiful sunsets, and those who wake up early can look forward to a truly natural light show featuring the sun, sky and sea in the morning at dawn.

You can learn in detail about the features of a holiday on Surin Beach in high and low seasons from reviews of Surin Beach and hotels nearby - materials from Turister.Ru users.

How to get to Surin Beach

You can get to the beach by public bus (for example, from Kamala Beach) or by taxi. The cost of a taxi fare from Phuket airport is 450-600 baht according to the meter (900-1200 rubles at the current exchange rate), from Patong - at least 500 baht (respectively, 1000 rubles). If you are driving without a meter, be careful, the taxi driver can name any amount upon arrival at your destination. It makes sense to negotiate in advance (plus, no one has canceled reasonable bargaining; it works in Thailand).

You can get from the city center by bus; the cost of the ticket will depend on the transport company, but it is always cheaper than taking a taxi.

Thai buses are called songthaews. These are not too big open blue vans with benches inside. When it rains, buses are covered with awnings. Such cars drive slowly and stop very often to pick up and drop off passengers, so a journey of just 10 km can take you more than 30 minutes. To exit anywhere, you need to press the bell button inside the body. It is customary to give money to the driver upon exiting.

Nearby is the sandy beach of Bang Tao, which can be reached in 20 minutes or by local tuk-tuk or rented scooter (rental 200 baht/day). There is ample parking space near the resort shore.

Another option to get to the beach is by water. So, on the neighboring beaches you can rent a boat or kayak and try to get to Surin Beach by water. The cost will be higher than if you get there by land, but the experience will be much greater.

A convenient option for those who are used to planning everything in advance is a transfer to Surin Beach from the KiwiTaxi service:

It is also a resort, on the territory of which there are several hotels. It is located almost in the center of the western coastline of the island. It is about 25 kilometers from the capital, and sixteen from the airport. is located north of it, but can only be reached by highway, since they are separated by a coastal cliff. The total length of Surin Beach is about a kilometer, with a width of 40 meters.

Due to the fact that many rich and famous people of the Earth prefer to choose this place for their vacation, Surin Beach is often called the beach of “millionaires”. However, this epithet fully applies only to its northern, most isolated part. Where Pansi Bay is located, on the shores of which two of the most fashionable hotels on the island are built - Amanpuri and The Surin Phuket. This piece of paradise is separated from the place for plebeians by a coastal cliff, so you won’t get there just like that.

Infrastructure on Surin Beach

Surin Beach in Phuket is one of the most well-equipped. In addition to hotels, several restaurants and bars have been built there. Tourists do not necessarily have to leave it to have an interesting and useful time. At their service are salons, excursion bureaus, and companies operating.

Its main difference from others is the absence of a highway, which in other places divides the residential and recreational areas. Here the route runs two hundred meters to the east, and the embankment is occupied by a pedestrian area lined with shops and small cafes. In addition, there are practically no palm trees, and life-giving shade is provided by local trees, somewhat reminiscent of our pines.

From the beach it is quite easy, in just half an hour of walking, you can get to the neighboring sections of the coast - Laem Sing and Bang Tao, each of which can find something especially interesting that is not found in other places.

Cheap guest houses can be found in Bang Tao, where rooms are rented for different periods, from a day to a month. You can choose the most suitable hotel on the websites hotellook.ru or roomguru.ru. And you can see the best of them in the selection below.

Surin Beach is a beach and resort in Phuket, located almost in the very center of the west coast of the island, 16 km from and 25 km from Phuket Town. In the north it borders with, with which it is connected only by highway; it cannot be reached by sea. Length is about a kilometer, width - 40 m.

Surin Beach on the map of Phuket

Surin has a well-developed infrastructure with hotels, restaurants, bars, large shops, massage parlors, motorbike rentals and tour desks. Therefore, it is not necessary to go to other resort towns for entertainment and shopping - everything can be found here.

Surin is sometimes called the “Beach of Millionaires”, saying that many celebrities and rich people of the planet choose these places as a vacation. In fact, they stay a little further north, in the sheltered Pansea Beach, where there are two expensive hotels - The Surin Phuket (formerly Chedi Phuket) and Amanpuri. This place is separated from Surin and cannot be reached along the coast.

How to get there from the airport

Since Surin Beach is located close to the airport, you can get there in about 30 minutes. Most likely you will have to take a taxi, since minivans usually only go to Patong, Karon and Kata. By taxi the price is negotiable, but it is unlikely to be higher than 500 baht.

Can be ordered in advance.
