In order for the trip to be successful, we will get acquainted with the resorts of Greece and consider where it is better to rest, focusing on the purpose of the trip.

Without children

Among tourists eager to spend a fun and stormy vacation, the priority is the beaches, which are distinguished by entertainment programs. Among them, the most popular are:

  • Faliraki on the island of Rhodes;
  • Super Paradise Beach on the island of Mykonos;

  • Adelianos Kampos in Crete.

Rest on such beaches will definitely not be boring and will be remembered for a long time.

The best places to stay with children

For tourists traveling with children, the priority in choosing beaches is comfort, shallow sea, as well as the availability of the benefits of civilization and various attractions for children.

Greece has a large number of beaches for the whole family, of which the most popular are:

  • Agios Gordios (Corfu island);
  • Elafonisi (Crete);
  • Marati (Akrotiri Peninsula);
  • Agios Georgios (Naxos island);
  • Monastiri (island of Paros).

On any of these beaches, little pranksters will be able to enjoy their vacation to the fullest, just like their parents.

For lovers of "spicy"

Beaches and excursions are not all that can be said about tourist Greece. For lovers of risk and extreme, there are also interesting activities here:

  • Rafting. These risky boat trips are especially popular on the Peloponnese island, where every tourist can choose a rafting with a suitable level of difficulty.
  • Canoes and kayaks. Practiced in quiet lakes such as Plastira and Kremaston in Thrace.
  • Jeep safari. Those who want to feel the speed and extreme can safely go to the mountainous Navpaktos and Kissavos.

Thrill-seekers will surely find something to see in Greece and get extreme experiences.

Nightlife in the land of white sands

Nightlife in Greece is vibrant and fun with many different cafes and bars. Nightclubs are open until 6-7 in the morning, offering travelers a rich program and music for every taste. The most popular places among party-goers:

Did you know? During siesta (from 14:00 to 18:00) and after 22:00 it is not customary in Greece to make phone calls.

Food and accommodation

The primary task of every traveler is to find the most convenient way to solve food, accommodation and transport issues.

Where to stay?

Greece is famous for its hotels for every taste and budget. The choice of a hotel should be taken care of in advance, especially during the peak of the tourist season. Hotels set the highest cost of living in the period from May to September, however, various discounts and promotional offers are possible throughout the year.

Accommodation price depends on the season. On average, a room in a two-star hotel costs 30-60 euros per day, hotels with three or four stars offer accommodation for 60-120 euros, and five stars offer a starting price for rooms from 100 euros.

Holidays in all-inclusive hotels are also gaining popularity in Greece, but you should be prepared that the daily price will exceed the cost of a standard room at least twice.

Public transport and car rental

The most developed public transport in Athens is represented by the metro and a wide network of buses and trolleybuses. One-way fare for all types of transport is 1.50 euros.

Large cities in Greece have a well-developed bus network, and in small cities, transport can run on a schedule, which will have to be adjusted.

The taxi fare is € 3.20 plus € 25 cents per kilometer.
To rent a car, you need an international driver's license, driving experience of at least three years and age from 25 to 70 years. The average cost of an economy class car is 40 euros.

Most gas stations in Greece usually close at 19:00. The only exceptions are gas stations in large cities and on expressways.

Cuisine and food

Greek cuisine is famous for its abundance of vegetables and herbs, cheeses, olives, olive oil and wine. In various cafes and restaurants with a local flavor, you can taste a variety of dishes for every taste. The portions are usually large and the prices are reasonable. If you do not order expensive food and alcohol, the average bill in a restaurant will be 15-25 euros.

You can also eat in hotels, the average price per day will be 15-20 euros.

Shopping and Greece

Many tourists go to Greece for shopping. In this country, you can profitably buy leather shoes and high-quality knitwear. The price for a fur coat is usually 1500-3000 euros.

If the main purpose of your visit to this country is shopping, then it is most advisable to do it during seasonal sales. August-September is the time of sales for the summer collection, and February-March is for the winter.

In Greece, when buying fur products, you must keep a receipt, which will need to be presented at customs.

Greece is a country to which one wants to constantly return. Its rich architecture, clean beaches, amazing places and excellent cuisine will make your stay in this country unforgettable.

Which resort to choose in Greece?

Hello again, dear readers! It's December and summer is still far away, but already now many are thinking about a vacation. I want to draw your attention to sunny Greece.

Pieria

Pieria is a fairly large region located between the city of Thessaloniki and the capital. Vacationers will like the fact that you can combine sightseeing holidays with the beach. Not far from here are the famous, it is convenient to get to Athens.

The area is located at the base of the Olympus mountain range. If you have a car, housing can be rented in small villages in the mountainous part, this will allow you to hike and enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery, while being close to the sea and in complete silence.

Sandy beaches interspersed with small pebbles and smooth entry into the water, a large selection of water activities, create the best conditions for families with children.

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is the second most important metropolis in Greece after the capital. However, due to the competent layout of the streets, there is no crowding and feeling of the crowd. It is pleasant to stroll along the streets of the city, looking at the numerous architectural monuments.

The rest will appeal to young people, various festivals are often held in the city, and musical events are offered.

Hair

Volos is not yet such a well-known place as other resorts in Greece, but it is quite comfortable and beautiful. Despite the fact that all the infrastructure is available, there are few tourists. There is no airport nearby and public transport is difficult. However, if you are by car, it is better to take a closer look at the resort.

There is no beach in the city itself. But in the surrounding villages there are amazing coves with clean and transparent water. Peace and quiet are guaranteed. It will be of interest to tourists who like a relaxing holiday surrounded by beautiful nature. Perfect for families with small children, but teenagers will be bored here.

In conclusion about the mainland resorts, I want to say that if you are going for a beach vacation and do not set a goal to visit certain attractions located only there, then it is better to choose other resorts in Greece. In my opinion, the beaches on the islands are better, there are more bays, the sea is more beautiful, and there are no less interesting historical sites than on the mainland, although there are always exceptions.

Peninsula

Halkidiki

Halkidiki is one of my favorite places in Greece. Very green with many small beautiful coves. In some places, the rocks hang fancifully over the emerald transparent water, creating natural grottoes. There are very few people, most of the peninsula is magnificent, wild, untouched nature.

There are also disadvantages. There are few attractions here. And those that are, are located far enough away. If you do not plan, then you need to choose housing in towns where there is the necessary infrastructure, or take a tour to. Because, as in small villages it is difficult to find a good store or ATM.

This place is just meant for a beach holiday. Here you can find quiet and uncrowded resorts or even rent a house on the beach far from everyone. Luxurious nature and magnificent beaches will not leave indifferent any tourist.

Peloponnese

The Peloponnese is a fairly popular place, but more for active recreation, there are many ancient sights here. Sparta, which in those ancient times became famous for its opposition to Athens, is located here. As a rule, tourists come here to visit certain historical sites.

As in all of Greece, there are excellent beaches and beautiful nature. Of the minuses, it is difficult to get here. In the summer, Aeroflot occasionally flies, but there is no permanent connection with Russia. You can fly through other cities in Greece, but this lengthens the journey and makes the transfer difficult.

Islands

Crete

Crete is the largest island in Greece and one of the best holiday destinations. Here you can find everything a tourist needs. The unusual mountain landscape and magnificent sandy beaches, especially in the north of the island, will not leave anyone indifferent.

Suitable for recreation for literally everyone, it is not difficult to find something to their liking, many interesting places, a huge choice of accommodation for every wallet.

Rhodes

Rhodes is a favorite island of Russian tourists, thanks to a large selection of tours and reasonable prices. The vegetation here is slightly less than in Crete, there are many cozy coves, there are historical monuments.

You can safely go to rest for everyone. As in Cyprus, infrastructure is well developed everywhere, there are many beaches, only the prices are slightly lower.

I wrote a separate article about this island. There is a lot of useful tourist information there. And the article contains a complete overview of the island's resorts.

Corfu

Corfu is located in the west of Greece. A very picturesque green island. The coastline is winding, there are many rocks in which quiet coves hide. It is not difficult to find secluded places here, there is beautiful nature around. Cozy hotels offer true European service. The island is comfortable for families with children, soft sand and a gentle entrance to the water. Read more about the best beaches in Corfu.

Kos

Kos is a chic and expensive resort for the elite, it's not for nothing that Hollywood stars choose it for recreation. The island is small, located in the southeastern part of the Aegean Sea. There is a lot of greenery here, the nature is very beautiful.

The prices are high, so you probably won't be able to have a budget vacation. You can see the cost here.

Zakynthos

Zakynthos is an amazingly beautiful island to which one would like to return. Two rows of mountain ranges cover the valley from bad weather. Lush vegetation, sheer cliffs, picturesque bays with golden sand closed from the sea are a real paradise for tourists.

Unfortunately, people rarely land on the island, you can only get here by local airlines or ferry.

Santorini

Santorini is a small volcanic island with 70 km of coastline. The white houses of local residents are laconically inscribed in the mountain landscape. It has its own kind of aristocratic, cozy atmosphere. Life flows slowly, time seems to stop.

If you step back a bit from the hiking trails, you can find wild places and enjoy the solitude. The beaches of the island are very diverse, even the sand in every place has its own shade, from pale yellow to bright red.

Rest on the island is expensive. As a rule, tourists come here for one day as part of excursion groups.

conclusions

There are many resorts in Greece and it is really difficult to choose. Beautiful nature and gorgeous beaches can be found in almost every corner of this sunny country. So where is the best place to relax in Greece? How many people, so many opinions. Where one likes it, the other will not necessarily be good there.

If you, dear readers, are interested in my opinion, now I would act in the following sequence:

  1. We read general information about the country and the main resorts
  2. We look at the prices for tours or accommodation and air tickets (you may come across cheap tickets and it will be more profitable to go on your own)
  3. Based on the second point, we decide how to rest, through a tour operator or by yourself. I wrote how to make the right decision
  4. Most likely, for the first acquaintance with the country, I would choose one of the islands, focusing on price-nature-quality-easy transfer (in this sequence). You may have other priorities.
  5. Having decided on the island, read detailed information about the resorts of this place, based on the latest reviews on the network
  6. Then choose accommodation, hotel or house (if not a tour)
  7. Now redeem the tour or tickets (if you are driving on your own)

This plan is not suitable only for those who purposefully go to see certain attractions. It is easier for such tourists, they just need to choose a resort closer to the desired places of visit.

That's all I wanted to tell you about, I hope you have a general picture of the resorts in Greece.

My personal impressions can soon be learned from stories in the "My travels" section. In the meantime, I suggest you read the article. It seems to me that this is a topical issue. Subscribe to my mailing list and be the first to receive new publications.

Recently, in some minor magazine, I came across a note that this country will also soon be closed to Russians. Allegedly, they will make a couple of provocations for this purpose. Heard nothing? It will be a great pity. Write in the comments what you think about this. Very interesting to read.

And I say goodbye to you for a little while. Share the article on social networks, convenient buttons are below.

We will tell you where to go for the first time in Greece. We chose three directions: for outdoor activities, lounging on the beach and places with cool sights.

Greece only seems to be a small country. In fact, each of its regions is a whole world filled with ancient monuments, picturesque beaches and places that remain in memory for a long time. Therefore, coming here for the first time, tourists rightly ask themselves questions: from which island or part of the mainland to start their acquaintance with Hellas? Some people prefer a leisurely vacation on the idyllic coastline, while others do not miss the opportunity to see the legendary monuments of history. Let's try to figure out where to go to Greece for the first time.

View the sights of Greece

Nowhere is the atmosphere of Greece's rich past more felt than in Athens. And at the same time, none of the Greek cities can boast of a more rapid development. The metropolis, and once the center of Western civilization, has preserved the most iconic sights of southern Europe, which many have heard about from school textbooks.

Excursions to the sights of Athens should start from the Acropolis, the heart of which is the Parthenon and the Temple of Zeus. Not far from the Acropolis is the Agora - the center of life in ancient Athens with its temple of Hephaestus.

The capital of Greece is rich in museums. It is difficult to choose one of them to visit - the presented collections are so interesting. But among the most impressive are the Benaki Museum, the Acropolis Museum and the Cycladic Museum.

Even the districts of Athens are attractions with a special atmosphere. For example, Monastiraki with the flea market of the same name or the picturesque Plaka, whose buildings stand on the foundations of ancient structures. There is also Anafiotika - an area with its architecture more reminiscent of the Cyclades Islands.

Planning a trip? That way!

We've got some useful gifts for you. They will help you save money during the travel preparation phase.

If you want to get to know the ancient Greek sights better, you can settle in the Peloponnese. It is an excellent starting point for both organized excursions and independent travel. The most legendary places of Greece are concentrated in the Peloponnese: the archaeological park of Mycenae, the once mighty Epidaurus, the ruins of Tiryns, Delphi with its sanctuaries and Olympia, to which the world owes the appearance of the Olympic Games.

In the North of Greece, the Thessaly region stretches, which cannot be passed by fans of sightseeing holidays. It is famous not only for its excellent landscapes, but also for its rich history. Here the most popular object to visit is Olympus - the highest mountain range in the country, steeped in legends. Today it has been turned into a National Park. Nearby is Meteora, one of the most iconic and most important religious sites in Greece. Monasteries, which rise on the rocks and seem to float in the air, receive a stream of believers and tourists all year round.

Relax on the beach in Greece

For many years in a row, Greece has been recognized as the best country in Europe in terms of the number of clean and picturesque beaches. There is no need to doubt this: every summer the number of those wishing to lie on the Greek coast and forget about the hustle and bustle of big cities only grows.

On the mainland, the best beaches are the Halkidiki peninsula. Its coastline stretches for almost 500 kilometers, so everyone can choose a suitable vacation spot. On the Kassandra peninsula, the palm is given to the beaches of Sani for the immaculately clean sand. By the way, the best and most comfortable hotels are concentrated here. A large and long beach will delight guests of the Afitos resort. It stretches for almost 4 km and will appeal to anyone looking for a tranquil coastline. The Sithonia Peninsula is the leader in the number of cleanest beaches. Vourvourou, Porto Carras, Porto Koufo, Toroni and Akti Elyas are notable for their beauty. The advantage of a beach holiday in Halkidiki is its proximity to developed resort villages and any infrastructure.

Going to Greece for the first time, many tourists rely on its islands. You can start exploring the Greek beaches in Zakynthos. It is famous for its turquoise bays and protected areas. Travel brochures are adorned with images of Navayo Bay with a small but impressive beach. Laganas Beach is much larger (9 km). Its shallow sea and soft sand make it comfortable to relax with children. For a relaxing beach holiday, you need to go to the Gerakas coast. It has a sandy beach, green landscapes and no crowds even in high season.

Choosing Kefalonia for a beach holiday, it is difficult to make a mistake. No wonder it is called the Blue Flag Island. The beaches are crowded and empty, sandy and pebbly, but they are united by the impeccable purity of the turquoise sea. In Kefalonia, it is worth relaxing on the Myrtos beach, which is included in the rating of the best in Greece. It resembles a crescent in shape, and around are white cliffs with lush greenery. Other famous beaches on the island include Xi with its dark orange sand and the well-maintained Antisamos with white pebbles.

Relax actively in Greece

There is no better place for outdoor activities in Greece than Crete. The island seems to be created for those who are not used to sitting still and prefer any kind of activity. There are many options for spending leisure time, but the most popular of them are:

  • Trekking in the gorges. The best way to explore Crete is on foot. The island has both well-studied routes and routes accessible only to professionals. You can start with a hike through the gorges of Samaria, Imbros and Aradena;
  • Mountain biking... Mountainous Crete is a place for mountain bikers. You can plan your trip yourself or use the services of special agencies. For beginners, there are short routes up to 30 km, for experienced tourists - up to 100 km;
  • Canyoning... This is an option for those who are looking for new sensations. Descents along the canyons of mountain rivers, high cliffs, breathtaking landscapes - all this will leave an indelible impression;
  • Family entertainment... Since Crete is popular for families, you can spend time actively in any of the island's four water parks.

Greece is one of the most underrated windsurfing destinations in Europe. But at the same time it is one of the most promising. An example of this is Paros, which hosts major competitions every year. During the summer, a steady wind blows on this island, which creates ideal conditions for windsurfing. From time to time it weakens, and then Paros is the best suited for beginners in this sport. The most popular skiing spots are the beaches of Santa Maria and the Golden Beach.

Among the resorts of Greece, there is something for everyone - whether you want privacy or dancing until you drop, a meeting with the fascinating world of mythical gods and antiquities or outdoor activities. Indeed, in Greece you can bask in the hot sun, enjoy the turquoise sea and white sandy beaches, stroll through picturesque places, go surfing, admire the unique architecture, visit exciting excursions, and, of course, plunge into the atmosphere of nightlife.

The most extreme south of Greece is the island of Santorini or Thira. The visiting card is an urban landscape with white houses and blue roofs. Indeed, all the cities in Santorini are lined up in the same color scheme.

The archipelago was formed 3500 years ago thanks to volcanic eruptions. In memory of the ancient catastrophe, there are colorful beaches. Each city on the island of Santorini is unique in the color of its beaches: black, red, golden and white as snow.

  • - the capital of the island;
  • Oia - the white city of Santorini;
  • Pyrgos is a medieval village;
  • Kamari - inexpensive hotels for a budget holiday.

The hottest months are July, August (up to 37 °). You can get there by plane or by ferry.

Corfu

Popular resorts await tourists on the island of Corfu. The best month to travel is May. In the spring, the island is buried in flowers, everything around is fragrant. The heat has not come yet, but it is already possible to swim. The nature is fantastically beautiful - the turquoise Ionian Sea, underwater caves, picturesque cliffs, secluded sandy bays.

Not sure which city to go to? Choose:

  • - youth rest, inexpensive hotels;
  • and - for families and older tourists;
  • - waves, rocks, bays;

I call the island of Zakynthos the luxurious flower of the Mediterranean. An emerald valley stretches between the mountain ranges, and on the coast there are resorts with sandy beaches. The air is filled with the aromas of pine needles, citrus fruits and grapes.

Of the sights - the Blue Caves, a nature reserve, the temple of St. Dionysius, churches and monasteries. Get here by ferry.

Attica, Athens

Southern Greece is the name of the mainland, which includes Attica and Peloponnese. Continental Greece is famous for its mild climate, olive groves and vineyards. Even in early spring, it is a couple of degrees warmer here than on the coast.

When they describe the resorts of Attica, they mean the region centered in Athens. If you are flying to the mainland, chances are your plane will land in the capital.
