Seoul Incheon International Airport is Seoul international airport (South Korea). Seoul Airports Is there an airport in Seoul

I always dreamed of going to South Korea, but my lack of knowledge of the Korean language stopped me. Unlike me, even before meeting me, my husband had already been to Korea twice :) And literally in March, we made a joint trip to Seoul :) We found the cheapest tickets. The country seemed diverse to me, or rather, with unlimited possibilities.

South Korea Airport – Seoul (Incheon)

South Korea has two main international airports, Incheon and Gimpo. We had a ticket to Incheon, so that's where I'll start. It is located 48 kilometers from Seoul. I’ll say right away that the airport is very large and has two terminals:

  • Main Terminal - This terminal is the largest in the world, just imagine how big it is, if it is considered such. This terminal serves major Korean airlines;
  • Terminal A - all other flights not included in the Main Terminal are serviced in this terminal. The terminal serves flights of absolutely all foreign carriers. It also has a train that carries passengers along it and delivers it to the Main Terminal. I also want to mention that to take this train, you need to go straight to the station, it is located in the center of the terminal. Once on the train, you will pass all the information desks, including immigration.

To tell you how many paid and free services there are at the airport, I will have to write a lot of letters, so I will highlight the most important thing :) To begin with, I will say that there are many exchange offices and ATMs at the airport. However, you must use them before you go through customs. Once you have passed immigration control, you will no longer be able to withdraw money, because there will be no ATMs anymore. They are all located in the common room.

There are many food outlets at the airport, and they have a varied cuisine, not only Korean, so if you want to have a snack, do not deny yourself. We arrived with a good budget, so we didn’t deny ourselves almost anything. By the way, check out the best ticket prices and book in advance.

There is a lot of entertainment, there are game rooms, relaxation rooms, waiting rooms, in general, if you think that time will drag on long and tediously, then you are mistaken :) There is also free wi-fi at the airport, which you can use as much as you want. If you wish, go shopping, there are simply tons of them. On the way back we bought a lot of funny souvenirs that we had never seen anywhere before.

Getting from the station is a little difficult in the sense that everything is in Korean and it’s difficult for a person who has never been there before or doesn’t know the language to understand it. Fortunately, my husband already had experience, and I was calm, but you shouldn’t worry either, I will try to explain everything as clearly as possible. So, you can get to in these ways

  • by bus;
  • metro;
  • Taxi;
  • by car;
  • transfer.

To Seoul by bus

I immediately advise you not to bother searching for a bus, as it is extremely difficult and it costs nothing to get confused. All knowledgeable tourists, as well as those who have booked a hotel in advance, should go to any information desk. There you need to show the airport employee your hotel reservation, where your hotel is located is absolutely not important.

Shuttle buses

The employee will direct you to the right bus and tell you its number, since these buses from here only go to hotels. There are no restrictions; you can take a bus to anywhere in Seoul where there is a hotel. The bus stop is located on the first floor of Terminal A, which is where you need to go. I was surprised that the buses taking passengers to the hotel were so comfortable.

Buses run from the airport to the hotel 24 hours a day. Detailed information about bus movements can be found at the information desks, where you will be given a schedule. Information desks where you can be given a timetable are located at the following numbers:

KAL Limousine buses

Now I will tell you about the paid option. Like shuttle buses, these buses (“Limousines” is what they are called) depart from the airport to Seoul. All buses whose numbers I will list run from 05:00 to 00:00 every half hour, but at night this option will not work if the flight is at night. You will have to spend a little over an hour on the road.

These buses, as you probably guessed, belong to Korean Air. They are light blue in color and the inscription on them is appropriate. These buses take passengers to (main) metro stations. The bus stop is located on the ground floor, at exit 4A, as well as at exit 100B. You need to take one of the buses (depending on where you need to go):

  • Bus No. 6701 – This bus goes to East Seoul. Its route starts from the airport and ends at the Seosomun KAL BLD stop;
  • Bus No. 6702 – departs from the airport and goes to the final stop “Yaksu Station”, making several stops along the way;
  • Bus No. 6703 – departs from the airport and goes to the final stop “Bestwestern Gangam”;
  • Bus No. 6704 – from the airport the bus goes to the final stop “Grand Inter-Continental”;
  • Bus No. 6705 – the bus goes from the airport to Sheraton Walkerhill;

All buses will pass near the Inha Medical Center. To find out what stops each bus makes, you can look. This will make it clearer to you which bus you need to take.

Fare

  • Travel on shuttle buses is free. You must show your reservation to the driver and board the bus, taking an empty seat.
  • A standard ticket for one person on a paid bus will cost about $14;
  • Tickets for children under 4 years old will cost $0.50.

Where to buy tickets

  • Tickets for all bus numbers can be purchased from ticket machines and ticket offices located at bus stops;

  • It is located at the KAL Limousine counter at the airport, at gate No. 4. However the counter is open from 08:00 to 18:30 so please be aware of that;
  • At the reception. Here you can purchase a ticket from 05:20 to 18:00, then it will be closed;
  • In the in-flight duty-free store of Korean Air flights.

To Seoul by subway

And now we can talk about the metro. Seoul Railway is accessible by express train and regular train. The difference is that the express does not stop at any stop, but goes straight to the final stop, Seoul Station. I recommend that you become thoroughly familiar with the Seoul metro map.

High-speed Express

As I already said, the train departs from the airport from the Incheon International Airport station and goes to the station without stops. The station is located on the underground floor of the Main Terminal. A direct road connects Incheon Airport to Seoul Station, which is located in the center of Seoul, where you can get off. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes, slightly less than taking the bus. The departure time of the first train is at 05:26, and the last at 21:45. The train leaves every 35 minutes and travels for 42 minutes. You can see more detailed information about the train schedule.

Normal (All Stop Train)

Let me start with the fact that the station is located on the first underground floor. If you have a long way to travel, you can use the service of an electric car (free of charge), which will take you to the station. However, you can use the service from 07:00 to 19:00, then you need to walk.

The train also goes to Seoul Station, but it makes some stops along the way, so the travel time increases to an hour.
The first train leaves at 05:23, but the last one at 21:42, after which you will no longer be able to use the metro. Trains depart every 10 minutes. Travel time takes about 55 minutes.

Fare

  • An adult's ride on Express will cost you $13;
  • Travel for children on Express is $6;
  • A ride on the “All stop” train will cost $4;
  • Children's fare at All stop will cost $0.50

Where to buy tickets

  • An Express ticket for all trains can be purchased at the passenger information desk No. 45, which is located on the first underground floor, at exit B1;
  • The terminal, which is located at the airport near the entrance to the metro, is a blue terminal.

  • Tickets for the “All stop” train can be purchased at the terminal, which will be orange.

To Seoul by taxi

Apart from public transport, there are other ways to travel and taxi is one of them. As for me, when finances allow, it is better to travel comfortably. Taxi ranks are located in the arrival terminal on the ground floor, at gates No. 4 and No. 8. If you leave the terminal, then you can immediately take a free taxi, they are always there and work around the clock.

You can also use the service from the airport, where the price will be fixed and you can be sure that you will not be deceived. Taxi stands are located near bus stops (I mentioned the stop locations above). You can also order a taxi in advance to be sure that you do not have to wait for a free taxi. These are taxis that the airport cooperates with; you can order them by phone: +82-1577-2600.

Taxi drivers accept payment in cash and by card, so pay as you wish. Travel time will take 40-45 minutes.

Fare

A taxi fare will cost you $88.

To Seoul by car

It is best to rent a car in advance, since then the number of passengers at the airport is huge and it is not a fact that when you arrive there will be free or suitable cars for you. You can rent a car in advance.

If you decide to rent after arrival, then you need to contact the counter of the company offering rental services. The counters are located in Terminal A and are quite easy to find. If you find this difficult, then go to any information desk and ask where you can find these companies and they will direct you.

Do not forget that your license must be international, and your experience must be at least 3 years. If everything meets the requirements, then you should not have problems with rent.

Rental cost

Renting a car will cost at least $70 per day.

Transfer to Seoul

Considering how big the airport is and how difficult it is to navigate it, especially with public transport, I would only recommend this method if you have the opportunity. Find a company that meets your requirements in advance and apply for a transfer. Having provided all the information, you will also indicate your phone number.

As soon as your application is accepted, a message will be sent to your phone number saying that a transfer will be waiting for you on the day of arrival. The driver will be waiting for you at the exit from the airport in the parking lot, which is located on the ground floor. The driver will have a sign with your name in his hands, so you will understand that they have come for you.

Transfer cost

The minimum transfer cost will be $100.

Seoul Airport – Gimpo

Now I’ll tell you about Gimpo, since it is closer, only 15 kilometers from Seoul. The airport is not as big as Incheon, but still not small either. By the way, the airport was considered the main one until 2011, until Incheon was built.

The airport has a variety of cafes and restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat on the way. There are showers and even outlets for charging phones. I think this service will be useful for people surfing the Internet.

There are also ATMs and exchange offices, it is not as complicated as in Incheon, so you can withdraw and change money anywhere in the airport. There is also a pharmacy and a medical center, keep in mind that if something happens, you can immediately seek help. The airport has three terminals, two of which are international and one domestic.

From the airport you can get to Seoul in several ways:

  • by bus;
  • by metro;
  • by taxi;
  • by car;
  • transfer.

To Seoul by bus

KAL Limousine buses also run from the airport, but there are significantly fewer of them. Buses depart from the airport, which stops at the airport exit, to Seoul.

To get to the city, you need to take one of the buses:

  • Bus No. 6706 – departs from the airport and goes to the “Jamsil Lotte World” stop;
  • Bus No. 6707A also departs from the airport and goes to Inha Medical Center.
  • Bus No. 6706 does not pass through the Inha Medical Center, while bus No. 6707A goes straight to it. You can find out a more detailed description of the stops.

Travel time from the airport to Seoul will take about 30 minutes. The departure time of the first bus is at 04:00, and the last at 22:10, buses depart every half hour.

Fare

The fare will cost you $3.50.

Where to buy a ticket

  • Tickets for all bus numbers can be purchased from the machine located at the bus stop;
  • At the reception. Here you can purchase a ticket from 05:20 to 18:00.

To Seoul by subway

From this airport you can also take the metro. The beauty of this airport is that everything is much simpler here than in the first one. You need to go down to the metro station, it is located on the street right in front of the airport, called “International Airport Gimpo”.
The train departs from the airport on the orange line L3 and goes to Seoul Gwanghwamun Station. The first train leaves at 05:30, and the last one at 21:30. The journey from the airport to the station takes 40 minutes. The train will make the following stops: Songjeong Station, Magok Station, Ujangsan Station, Hwagok Station, Kkachisan Station, Mokdong Station, Omokgyo Station, Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station, Singil Station, Gongdeok Station, Aeogae Station, Chungjeongno Station, Seodaemun Station and Gwanghwamun Station ( final).

You don't have to go to the final stop; you can get off earlier if you need it. To get off correctly at the right stop, you need to study the map of Seoul and the metro, so it will be clearer to you where to get off.

Fare

  • The fare for an adult is $4;
  • The fare for a child will be $2.

Where to buy tickets

There are Korean Air kiosks at the airport where you can purchase a ticket.
It is a one-time yellow card.

To Seoul by taxi

There are a couple of taxi stands at the airport: Standard Taxi, Model Taxi, International and Gimpo. In principle, we can use any taxi, but their prices differ. Most importantly, look for a taxi with a meter, as Seoul drivers love to deceive naive tourists, and to avoid being one of them, prepare in advance :)

Taxi cost

  • Standard Taxi – $39;
  • Model Taxi – $60;
  • International – $45;
  • Gimpo – $55.

As you can see, the cost of different companies varies significantly, choose the one that is cheaper. It’s not worth paying for a good brand of car and other amenities, since the drive is only 15 kilometers. You will spend about 25 minutes on the road.

To Seoul by car

The booking principle is absolutely the same. You can do this in advance, or you can do it at the airport, it’s up to you to decide. If you booked in advance, then do not forget to print a copy of the contract and take it with you, as you will be asked for it along with your license and passport.

Rental cost

The cost depends on what kind of car you rent, the average cost will be $70 per day.

Transfer to Seoul

Everything here is the same as I already described, the most important thing is not to forget that the transfer must be booked in advance. If you have any wishes, please indicate them when filling out the application. When you arrive at the airport, the transfer will be waiting for you.

Incheon International Airport is located 70 km from Seoul. It was put into operation in 2001 and has already become the very best not only in South Korea, but also one of the best in the world. National air carriers Korean Air and Asiana Airlines are based here, and tourists from international destinations also arrive here. With passenger traffic exceeding 68 million in 2018, we decided to dedicate a separate article to Incheon Airport and how to get from here to downtown Seoul.

Seoul Incheon Airport (IATA code – ICN) is the largest in South Korea and the thirteenth largest in the world. The airport has 2 passenger and 3 cargo terminals.

You need to be prepared for the fact that the airport is an entire city. For example, travel time by bus from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 is about 20 minutes.

The South Korean airport can accommodate more than 57 million passengers per year

Main terminal T1

The area of the Main Terminal is 496 thousand square meters - that's almost 106 football fields. At the same time, it is connected to Concourse A, intended for flights of foreign carriers.

As of the end of 2019, Terminal T1 serves Asiana Airlines, as well as a number of local and international (mainly Asian) airlines.

The area of the T1 terminal is 496 thousand square meters

Services for passengers

Both terminals at Seoul Airport have everything travelers need for a comfortable stay. The level of convenience is already indicated by the fact that, along with and, the main airport of South Korea is annually included in the list of the best airports on the planet according to the British company Skytrax, and in 2009 even topped the world ranking.

Passengers are offered both standard and unusual services - play golf, stroll through the winter garden, listen to performances by a symphony orchestra and many others.

Transport between terminals

  • To get from terminal T1 to T2, you can use the shuttle bus, which departs from exit No. 8 on the 3rd floor of terminal T1. Flights run at intervals of 7-10 minutes, travel time is 15-20 minutes.

There are quite a few other hotels of different categories near Incheon Airport (but not in the terminals themselves). A three-minute drive from Terminal T1 and 15 minutes from Terminal T2 is a magnificent hotel Grand Hyatt Incheon. Shuttle service to the terminals is provided free of charge.

Conveniently located to the airport and hotel Incheon Airport Queen, also providing guests with a free shuttle service. It offers well-equipped rooms, a dining room, a business center and parking.

Cheap tickets to Seoul

Dozens of airlines fly to Incheon Airport every day. To avoid missing out on great deals from leading air carriers and to buy tickets at a good price, use the low price calendar below:

How to get to Seoul

Even though Incheon is quite far from Seoul, getting to the center is not difficult. There are buses, trains and a taxi service running from the airport to the city. Let's start with the last method, as the most convenient and fastest.

Taxi from the airport to the center of Seoul

Taxi ranks at Seoul Airport are located opposite the exits from the arrivals area. You can get there in a regular economy class car or take a multi-seater car and travel with all the amenities.

Please note that in Seoul the overwhelming minority Taxi drivers understand English or will be able to recognize the hotel address on a booking confirmation in any language other than Korean. Therefore, the language problem can significantly complicate the use of this type of transport.

Taxi rank at exit 7C of terminal T1

It is much more convenient to order a taxi in advance of your arrival via the Internet [link]. In this case, the service, when serving a foreigner, will try to send a driver who speaks either the customer’s language or, at least, English. In addition, the driver will know in advance the address to which you need to be taken.

The cost of the trip is calculated online and you do not need to pay anything extra even if the flight is late. The taxi service independently monitors the Incheon airport board and sends a car taking into account any changes in the schedule. Thus, passengers avoid demurrage fees.

A driver with a sign meets passengers at the exit from the baggage claim area in the terminal where his flight arrives and accompanies them to the car. At the same time, the service prudently sends the contacts of the driver and passengers to each other, so it’s impossible to miss each other.

If you are flying with children, you can indicate in advance the need for child seats in the meeting car.

You can find out the current prices for a taxi from Incheon Airport to the center of Seoul, ask questions to the Russian-speaking support service and order a car on this page.

Bus

The most common option to get from the airport to the center of Seoul is by bus. There are both regular buses and luxury vehicles, proudly called “limousines.”

Bus stops departing from Incheon Airport to Seoul are located between exits 3 and 7 of Terminal 1 (platforms 3B-6B) and at the bus station at the exit of Terminal 2.

There are many routes, and they cover almost all areas of the city. Buses run from 5 am to midnight, tickets cost from 8 to 14 dollars (2019).

Limousine - luxury bus

Many hotels provide a free shuttle service for their guests; to do this, you need to find a shuttle bus with the name of the hotel and show the driver a valid reservation.

Hotel bus stops are located at platforms 1C, 3C, 12C, 14C, 14D of Terminal 1 and at platforms 2A and 6A of Terminal 2. You can find a hotel in the city that provides a free transfer service from the airport on this page.

Train

Another way to get from Seoul Incheon Airport to the center is by train. The city and the airport are connected by a railway line, which also includes the second airport - Gimbo; many stations have access to the metro.

There are 2 types of trains running between the airport and Seoul train station - regular train and aeroexpress.

Train route from Incheon Airport to Seoul city center

A regular train runs from 5:23 to 23:40, stopping at 12 stations, travel time: 59 minutes from terminal T1 and 66 minutes from terminal T2.

Aeroexpress travels from the airport to the station without stops, so the journey takes less time: 43 minutes from Terminal T1 and 51 minutes from Terminal T2.

The express runs from 5:20 to 21:50 and tickets can be purchased from ticket offices and ticket machines at stations in both terminals. The price of a one-way trip is about $8 (2019).

Car rental at Incheon Airport

You can rent a car at the airport itself; rental offices are located in both terminals on the 1st floor in the arrivals area.

Any person over 21 years of age and with more than 1 year of driving experience (determined by the date of issue of the driver's license) can rent a car.

Car rental offices are located at gates A and F on the ground floor of terminal T1

Credit cards are accepted for payment instantly, but when paying with cash or traveler's checks, you will have to wait for confirmation of your credit history, which, naturally, will delay the process of receiving a car.

You can save a lot if you make a reservation through a specialized car rental price comparison service. In this case, the system will compile a rating of car rental companies’ offers at the airport in a few seconds, which will allow you to select a company with the most favorable conditions much faster.

The online service will allow you to get a more transparent idea of tariffs, as well as possible pitfalls that affect the rise in prices. Comparing conditions on site will be much more difficult and time-consuming.

You can compare car rental prices at Seoul Incheon Airport and book a car online on this page.

General information

In terms of its size, the Incheon air harbor resembles an entire city and has IATA codes: ICN, ICAO: RKSI. The airport opened in 2002, when the country hosted the World Cup. It relieved the congestion at the nearby Gimpo airfield and took over almost all international flights.

Incheon Airport is located on the west coast of Yeongjongdo-Yongyudo Island, which was formed from 4 land areas. The air harbor was built over a period of 8 years. The designers plan to carry out renovation work here until 2020. This will be the 4th final stage, which will increase passenger turnover to 100 million people. per year, and cargo transportation - up to 7 million metric tons.

Today, the air harbor territory consists of 5 floors, one of which is the basement (B1). The facility is divided into a main concourse, a passenger terminal and a transportation center.

Incheon Airport has 3 runways, which have an asphalt surface and are located parallel to each other. They are called 16/34, 15L/33R and 15R/33L. Their length is 3750 m, width – 60 m, and thickness is 1.05 m. The lighting here is controlled from the control center using a computer system. The largest aircraft, such as Boeing and Airbus, can fly here.

Since 2005, the international Aviation Council has recognized this airport as the best in the world, and the British company Skytrax annually assigns a 5-star rating to the institution.

Incheon International Airport opened in March 2001. The airport was built specifically for the FIFA World Cup, since the capital's Gimpo Airport was too small and could not cope with the influx of tourists and fans for this important international event. The airport was built on a grand scale and in a rather interesting way. Two completely abandoned islands (Yongjongdo and Yongyudo) in the Yellow Sea were connected to each other. Incheon International Airport is the headquarters and main hub for national carriers Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.

If you intend to spend time here, we recommend that you go to the transfer counter to get an airport map. There are: free lounges, a hotel (with an hourly rate), free showers, cafes and restaurants, free Internet, countless shops and so on. Here you definitely won’t have to sleep on a bench; the main thing is to find out where everything is. All signs are duplicated in English (unlike China, for example). For the Japanese and Chinese, all inscriptions are also available in hieroglyphs. Unfortunately, Koreans have not yet reached the Russian language, although the first steps in this direction are already being taken. The customs declaration, for example, can already be filled out on the great and mighty. Everything is thought out to the smallest detail. There are always empty seats in the transit hall. Cafe for all tastes and culinary preferences.

Terminals

Main terminal

The main passenger terminal building of Incheon International Airport is the largest terminal in the world. All forty-four gates of the main terminal can serve the double-decker Airbus A380. Only Korean airlines Asiana and Korean Air are assigned to the main terminal. All other aircraft arrive and depart from Terminal A.

Terminal, A

Passenger Terminal A is designed to serve flights of all foreign airlines. To get to the boarding terminal, you need to take a special train from the main terminal. The entrance to the station is in the center of the terminal after passing through all immigration counters.

Important point

There are no banks after you clear customs and immigration. Therefore, it is better to do all monetary transactions before this, in the common room. Inside you can only find exchange offices, where the exchange rate is often unfavorable.

How to get to Seoul

If Korea is the final destination of your trip, you are faced with the issue of transportation. The airport is located almost 70 kilometers from Seoul. Despite this, the connection to the center of Seoul is amazing.

Aeroexpress

The Aeroexpress station is located on the third underground floor of the terminal; a direct line connects Incheon Airport with Gimpo Airport (administratively located in Seoul) and Seul Yeok Station (which is located in the very center). At Gimpo Airport you can transfer to all city subway lines, but when you get off at Seul Yeok you will immediately find yourself in the city center. The journey from the airport to the station will take no more than forty-five minutes and will cost about 4 dollars.

Bus

Service - if you don’t want to rack your brains and look for the right bus, you can go up to the girls at the information desks, show your hotel reservation or the desired address, and they will find you a bus. In any case, even if he does not stop near the hotel itself, you will get to the area you need.

By bus you can get to almost anywhere in Seoul. Boarding on the first floor of the terminal. Buses that go to the airport are called "limousines". Opening hours: from 05.00 to 24.00, city metro - from 06.00 to 23.00. Ticket prices usually range from 8,000 won (8 dollars) to 14,000 won (approximately $13). Buy tickets at the box office, or simply give money to the bus driver.

There is a category of buses that connect the airport with hotels, these are shuttle buses of the corresponding hotels. They always have the name of the hotel written on the side, they are free - but they only go to the hotel to which they belong and, accordingly, they carry only those who are going to stay at this hotel and have a preliminary reservation. All the leaders in the hotel industry have regular bus routes in Incheon: Hilton, Hyatt, Koreana, Continental and several others.

The next category of buses belongs to the airline "Korean Air", they are light blue, with the inscription "Korean Air" on the side. Buses go to major Seoul subway stations; fares on these buses range from 8,000 to 15,000 won.

From the airport you can reach not only Seoul, but also all major cities in Korea. Only these buses run only a few times a day. It makes sense to check the schedule of the desired bus in advance so as not to waste time at the port.

Detailed information about public transport from the airport is on the page.

Taxi

We do not recommend using the services of taxi drivers who greet you at the door. There are taxis at Incheon Airport that will take you anywhere in Seoul for a fixed fee. Its stand can be found next to the bus stops on the ground floor.
